Lilies in Colored Pencil
Here are the last of my lily drawings. I did these a few weeks ago but I’ve been busy with other things so I never posted them. I have a few days off for Thanksgiving so I hope I can do some drawing then. Today I did some watercolor painting which was a nice change. Now I am off to Grandma’s house. Happy Thanksgiving!

Here are some of the Peruvian lilies that I sketched in pen and ink. I used to be terrified of drawing in pen and ink without a pencil sketch underneath, but now I do it regularly. I still do preliminary pencil sketches for pen and ink works that are more complex though. Right now I am working on some 4×6 drawings of the Blue Ridge Parkway and I made drawings first so I wouldn’t make mistakes. I would hate to mess up something that took hours and hours of time to produce.

Jeet bought me flowers a few weeks back. For a little while all I was drawing were bouquets of lilies. There were the classic orange liles and little Peruvian lilies that came in all colors. I had so many things I wanted to draw but I felt that I had to drop everything and draw these because they were there and I wanted to capture them before they died. I got a few very good sketches and many mediocre sketches. Here are the ones I did in marker.

I have actually been doing quite a bit of drawing these days. I do my best to draw after work and on the weekends, although I am often tired. I haven’t gotten around to scanning my most recent drawings though. I think I will do a major scan-a-thon any day now. I am happy to report that I am almost done with my current sketchbook. I hope to finish it by the end of this year.
This drawing is something that I did on my recent Blue Ridge Parkway roadtrip. I was in the hotel room in Chambersburg, PA.
