Thoughts on sketching Ruggles

Filed under: Pen and Ink — koukla @ 5:58 pm

I have been trying to draw Ruggles more these days. He is devoted to Jeet and I because we take care of him every day. He sleeps in my room and follows us around the house. I have been finding that the more I draw him, the easier it becomes. Ruggles tends to stick to the same variety of positions, constantly shifting from one to another. When I draw him, I usually fill up a sheet of paper with all the little poses. By the time I finish one, he is on to another. Now that I have drawn him so many times, sometimes I can finish my drawing after he moves to another position, because I have such a clear mental image of him in my mind.

Fall Extravaganza

Filed under: Colored Pencil — koukla @ 6:16 pm

I just got back from a whirlwind trip to Virginia, North Carolina and Tennesee. Jeet and I drove down Skyline Drive, the Blue Ridge Parkway and Great Smoky Mountain National Park. It was quite nice and I’m glad I went. I didn’t do any drawing on location because it was a little too chilly for me and we were on a tight schedule. But I hope to do some really awesome landscapes from my photos. Here is a colored pencil sketch I did about a week ago.

Movies

Filed under: Colored Pencil, Pen and Ink — koukla @ 5:34 am

I took some time to draw Ruggles sleep while listening to the movie Dave playing in the background. Sunday afternoons tend to be a productive time for me to draw these days. And while I don’t like watching movies all that much, Jeet does and he likes it when I sit with him. Some movies require a lot of attention though, and even though I try, I cannot draw and listen / watch at the same time.

Disinterested

Filed under: Graphite — koukla @ 12:57 pm

My sister got these roses from her fiance and I took advantage of their presence by sketching them. I did this in a 3B and 6B pencil but soon became disinterested and gave up. One of these days I am going to do a really nice graphite drawing and spend a lot of time on it. But for now, sketching is all I can manage.

Yesterday Jeet and I went to the Big E, or The Eastern States Exposition, a giant state fair-like event in Massachusetts. This was the last weekend and there were tons of people, but we had an awesome time walking around and seeing everything.
