botanical

I have often been made fun of for drawing pretty pictures of flowers. First of all, they make me happy, so I draw them. Secondly, I prefer to call them “botanical drawings.”

Stippling usually really impresses people because of the tedium involved, but it’s more relaxing for me than anything else. These drawings were done with 01, 03 and 05 micron pens on bristol board (they are each 2.75” x 1.75”). I put each drawing into a glass photo coaster as a Christmas present for my aunt. I haven’t given it to her yet, but I think she will love it.

resting I am not

I took my last final this morning, so I have off until January 31. I need the break so badly, but unfortunately I have so much to think about right now. I have to attend to all those things I put on the back burner during the semester, such as laundry, cleaning my room, reading my mail, emailing random people and wrapping up other loose ends. And I have Christmas magic to create and not so long to do it. So stay tuned, a lot of pretty pictures are on the way in the next few weeks.

This is the finished version of the sketch I posted last time. I was going to do it in pen and ink and watercolor or something colorful like that, but then I decided at the last minute to do plain graphite. The recipient was really happy with it so I feel good about that. Unfortunately, a lot of detail is lost in this picture. I had to take a photo of it because it was too big to fit into my scanner (11” x 14”).

It felt good to work on some artwork again even though this was for someone else and there was more pressure on me to do a good job. I can’t wait until I finish the semester so I can do some artwork just for myself. I will be done with finals next Tuesday so I hope to have a lot of cool stuff to post after that.
