My mother bought this teapot for me when I was 10 years old. We took a trip to Princeton, NJ and my mother bought teapots for me and my two sisters. I chose this teapot because I liked the wavy edge around the lid. It reminded me of Mrs. Potts on Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. I did these in my Tombow brush pens but unfortunately this scan came out really bad and I’m not sure how I can improve the quality. For all the white parts I used the gray tone markers and it looks really cool if you look at it in person, but not in the scan.

This is more of a rough sketch than anything else really. Jeet gave me this teapot a few weeks ago as a surprise and I’ve been itching to draw it, but I just never got the chance. I thought it was so cute of him to surprise me and I think he has really good taste.
I used my Derwent colored pencils for this, but I’m not crazy about them because I can’t get as much detail as I can with Prismacolors. On the top half of the teapot there are little bumps but I didn’t add them in because I didn’t think it would come out well with these particular pencils. I think I’m going to try drawing this again with ink.
This teapot has double walled construction so the tea stays hot and the outside is cool. It also has a basket inside for brewing loose tea. My aunt gave it to me for Christmas two years ago and I think it looks very “professional.”
I had a splitting headache this morning and in spite of that I got out my watercolors and painted this. It was good practice because I have not been doing a lot of watercolor lately. I actually really like watercolor, but I am a lazy person and I don’t like cleaning up after myself. I think I need to get over that…

This is my Yiayia’s (grandmother’s) teapot which I have always loved because it looks so old fashioned and exotic. I drew it in brown but the designs are actually in red. It has awesome little cracks all over it which makes me wonder if it would just fall apart with boiling water poured in it. I have only had tea from it one time and I think Yiayia only kept it around for decoration because they always drank coffee. I had such a hard time drawing this because I just couldn’t get the shape and proportions right. In the end though I think I did a pretty good job and I am happy with it. It really was excellent practice in observational skills and I’m glad I finished it instead of scrapping it like I felt like doing. After I finished this, I realized that I have never really looked at it closely until now.

I was so happy when I saw that the topic for Illustration Friday was “tea” because I absolutely love tea and I’ve been thinking of doing a tea themed series for a long time. This is a little teapot that my mother gave me a few years ago—it is a personal size teapot with a cup on the bottom part. It’s not really blue and I didn’t draw the shape exactly as it exists either, but I really do like this sketch because it seems very playful and childlike. I think I’m going to draw all the teapots in my house one of these days. We have about six or seven of them.
