Well, I’m feeling a lot better, although I still have a stuffed up nose and an itchy cough. I sketched one of the tulips again yesterday, this time in graphite. They are really so beautiful that I can’t resist drawing them. Too bad I have to work all day today or else I would be drawing them again.
Beautiful sketch of a beautiful flower!
Here’s a poem by James Montgomery, Scottish poet and journalist, who shared your thoughts on the beauty of tulips:
Two shapely leaves will first unfold;
Then, on a smooth, elastic stem,
The verdant bud shall turn to gold,
And open in a diadem.
Not one of Flora’s brilliant race
A form more perfect can display;
Art could not feign more simple grace,
Nor Nature take a line away.
Yet, rich as morn, of many a hue,
When flushing clouds through darkness strike,
The Tulip’s petals shine in dew,
All beautiful, but none alike.
GORGEOUS
I wish I could shade and sketch that well when I am feeling good!
You do such lovely work, particularly in graphite. I’m amazed that the tulips have stayed in bud form for so long. If ever I buy them, they open far too quickly. I don’t blame you using them for drawing inspiration – they are gorgeous flowers.
thank you everyone! Graphite really is one of my favorite mediums. It’s simple and easy and nice to work with.
