Lilies in Colored Pencil
Here are the last of my lily drawings. I did these a few weeks ago but I’ve been busy with other things so I never posted them. I have a few days off for Thanksgiving so I hope I can do some drawing then. Today I did some watercolor painting which was a nice change. Now I am off to Grandma’s house. Happy Thanksgiving!

“Flowers! when the Saviour’s calm, benignant eye
Fell on your gentle beauty; when from you
That heavenly lesson for all hearts he drew.
Eternal, universal as the sky;
Then in the bosom of your purity
A voice He set, as in a temple shrine,
That Life’s quick travellers ne’er might pass you by
Unwarn’d of that sweet oracle divine.
And though too oft its low, celestial sound
By the harsh notes of work-day care is drown’d,
And the loud steps of vain, unlist’ning haste,
Yet the great lesson hath no tone of power,
Mightier to reach the soul in thought’s hush’d hour,
Than yours, meek lilies, chosen thus, and graced.” – Mrs. Felicia D. Hemans, “Sonnet—The Lilies of the Field”
Beautiful – all of them – though, being a fan of colors, I like the third one marginally better than the others!
Hi Carolyn,
I found your “Orange Lilies” in a Google Image search. They, and your other work I’ve been looking at are just beautiful. I wanted to ask your permission to use your orange lilies to enhance a wedding photo (my own). The resulting picture would be printed & framed in my home, but never sold etc. I would plan to remove the blue background and lie the flowers over a B&W photo. I’d be happy to send you a copy.
Thanks in anticipation,
Ruby
