My name is Carolyn Pappas and I have been drawing and painting and making artwork ever since I can remember. I started this blog in 2005 as a way to encourage myself to be more productive and I have to say that (in general) I have been sucessful with that goal. I think my skills have improved a lot in the process as well. I’ve always wondered what my “style” was and I think that I have sort of come up with one over time but I am always trying to change things up and challenge myself with new subjects and techniques.

When I was a kid I was homeschooled which had the advantage of leaving me extra time for artwork. I’ve always had a natural talent for art and my mother had me taking private art classes when I was only five. Ever since then I’ve really been involved in making artwork. When I was in college I was debating going into an art program but I ended up going to school for history and economics. I don’t regret what I did in school because I had a lot of fun with it but if I were going to go to school again I think I would go to art school.

The title of my blog comes from my childhood nickname “Koukla” (κούκλα), which means doll in Greek. When I am not drawing, painting, wasting time on the internet, or at my regular job, I am probably cooking or reading. I try not to watch a lot of tv because I used to be addicted to it and I found that it drained so much time and energy that I couldn’t focus on anything important. My favorite book is the Bible and I often add verses to my blog posts. My favorite philosopher is Epictetus.
